GET ready to perfect your fan-kicks and Chainés!

East London-born star Sonwa Sakuba is back in town and will be hosting a dance workshop on Monday at St Mark’s Anglican Church in Cambridge.

Having graduated from the Waterfront Theatre School in Cape Town with teaching qualifications in modern, ballet and tap dancing through the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing London, Sakuba is the perfect performer to teach you how to jete’ across the dance floor.

His inspiration came at the early age of five, after watching the South African musical film Sarafina.

Throughout his years at Selborne Primary and College, Sakuba studied drama and took singing lessons.

In his youth, Sakuba was trained by Elsa Radloff, Lloyy Brent and Joan Pike, who all played a vital role in instilling the passion for performing arts in his life.

“Dancing came as a result of knowing that to be successful in musical theatre, I would need to be a fully-fledged triple threat – singer, actor and dancer. My initial dance training only started in 2006 and I trained in ballet, hip hop, modern and tap at local East London dance schools,” he said.

He has also made a name for himself as a choreographer; his rendition of Mein Herr won him Best Broadway Group Choreography and Best Overall Choreographer and was featured in the 2014 production of Dancers Love Dogs. His piece, Elements was also selected and featured in the Broadway Dance Centre’s Performance Project.
