Selborne Shines in Derby Weekend Against Pearson

Selborne College delivered a dominant performance across multiple sporting codes during their annual derby weekend against Pearson High, held on April 11 and 12 in East London.

On the rugby field, Selborne reigned supreme, with the 1st XV clinching a commanding 40-13 victory. Across the board, teams impressed—highlighted by a 61-0 win from the U14Bs and a clean sweep from U15 to U14A.

In hockey, the 1st XI stormed to a 5-1 win, while the 3rd team thrashed their opponents 8-0. Junior teams showed grit, with notable wins for the U14A and B sides.

Off the field, Selborne’s chess team triumphed 4-0, the squash team claimed a perfect 8-0 win, and both junior and senior debaters secured victories, with Alvin Sajan and Ndalo Matiwane named best speakers.

Despite a tough tennis outing (2-10), Ntando Malotana secured a singles win, and paired with Thandile for a doubles victory. The golf team also excelled, finishing 5-1 ahead.

Selborne’s spirit, depth, and discipline made for a memorable derby, reinforcing their reputation as a powerhouse in Eastern Cape school sport.
